TWO KILLED AND ONE INJURED WHEN AUTO HITS MOTORCYCLE

Willian Kelly, 16. and Herbert Bennett, 35, both of Belmont, were killed when a motorcycle on which they were riding was struck late Saturday night on state route 2, near Willow by an automobile driven by Edward Baker of Parkersburg.

A third rider on the same motorcycle, Merle Russell, 20, also of Belmont, is in St. Joseph's hospital in Parkersburg with a broken leg and other cuts and abrasions. He is expected to recover.

Kelly died about two hours after the accident occurred and Bennett passed away at 4:30 A. M. Sunday morning in St. Joseph's hospital. Both had been taken to Parkersburg with Russell, and little hope was held for the recovery of Kelly and Bennett after they were admitted for treatment. Both sustained fractured skulls.

According to information received by investigating authorities the trio had been in Parkersburg Saturday evening where the victims had attended a motion picture show. The three were returning home in Belmont when the tragedy occurred.

The motorcycle was enroute north, meeting the automobile traveling south. It was said a door handle on the car struck Kelly, throwing him a number of feet.

The death of Kelly marked the second tragedy in the lives of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Kelly, who lost another son in an automobile accident almost a year ago.

The corner jury late Monday afternoon following an inquest held in the Ruttencutter funeral home rendered a verdict that William Kelly, 16, and Herbert Bennett, 35, both of Belmont, lost their lives when a motorcycle upon which they were riding collided with an automobile driven by Edward Baker of Parkersburg but were unable to fix responsibility for the accident.

Funeral services for the Kelly youth were held Wednesday afternoon from the Belmont church with Rev. Wilmoth in charge. Burial was made in the Ruckman cemetery. He is survived by a baby brother, a sister and his parents.
