John Benjamin, 78, a Pittsfield resident and Pike County native, died at 1:15 pm Mon. Jan. 30, 1989, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. Mr. Benjamin was born Nov. 21, 1910 in Summer Hill, son of Bill and Etta Curry Benjamin. He was a member of the Church of Christ. On March 25, 1931, he married Neva Broyles in Pittsfield, He survives. Also surviving is a son, Karl, at home; 2 daughters, Vera Murr of Louisiana, MO and Ruth Sevier of Bowling Green, MO; a brother, Lloyd of Pittsfield; 2 sisters, Lela Shipley of Pittsfield and Norene Gordon of Quincy; 2 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 10 am Thurs. in the Lummis Bennett Funeral Home in Pittsfield by Rev. William Schultz. Burial will be in Summer Hill Cemetery.
