Ann V. Gargano, 98, lifelong Hibbing resident, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Guardian Angels Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. She was born Feb. 7, 1914, to Oreste and Lodovina (Bottaini) Gherardi.

She graduated from Hibbing High School and Hibbing Junior College. Ann worked at Huffer's Drugstore until her marriage to Gordon Gargano on May 25, 1940. At a later time, she returned to work at Huffer's Drugstore, and then went on to work at the Hibbing Public Library until her retirement in 1979. Ann was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Saint Rita's Guild and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She loved golfing, curling, playing bocce ball and reading. She especially loved playing cards and did so at every opportunity. Her favorite pastime in later years was watching the Food Network (for what seemed like 24 hours a day!).

Ann is survived by her daughter, Gloria (John) Sporer; daughter-in-law, Fran Gargano; grandchildren: Shelly (Jim) Siewert, John (Lisa) Sporer, Gary (Jean) Sporer, Cheryl (Jon) Fox and Tony (Trisha) Gargano; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Harry (Marie) Gherardi; sisters-in-law: Antoinette Gargano, Beverly Gherardi and Eva Mackley; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; son, Jim; her parents; brothers: Roger Gherardi, Leno Gherardi and Alfonse Gherardi; and sisters: Mary Oliva and Ferra Shega.
