FUNERAL OF JOHN ADAIR

Funeral services for John Adair, who died Tuesday evening, were held Friday afternoon at the home of Mr. Adair's sister, Mrs. Ellen Burton, 105 State Street. Rev. Geo. C. Davis of the A.M.E. Church, conducted the services. Mr. and Mrs. Hooker, Mr. and Mrs. L. Taylor and H. McHenry sang. Interment was in Maplewood cemetery.

Mr. Adair's death was caused by the effects of a severe burn which he received several weeks ago. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Adair, the first colored settlers in Emporia. He was born in Little Rock, Ark., and came to Emporia with his parents when a small boy. He was an expert cook, a trade he learned when 17 years old, and which he had followed since. For many years he was the support of his mother, and his brothers and sisters. He had been a cripple for 7 years [might have been a number in front of the 7] but kept up this work in spite of his affliction. After the death of his mother Mr. Adair made his home with his sisters, Mrs. Ellen Burton and Mrs. Carrie Stepter, until a few years ago.

Mr. Adair is survived by three brothers, William Adair, Harry Adair and J. B. Adair, and two sisters, Mrs. Burton and Mrs. Stepter.
