1899 - 1999
Esther A. Lind passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Centre in Lethbridge on Friday, December 17, 1999 at the age of 100 years.
She was born in Sweden on October 24, 1899. She is survived by her sons Norman Johnson and John Lind (Gwen). She is survived by one brother Dore' Malmberg (Lola), five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Emil Johnson in 1923 and her second husband John (Jack) Lind in 1956. She was grieving the recent passing of daughter-in-law Victoria Johnson and her granddaughter Karen Atkinson.
She was a true Alberta Pioneer when her family homesteaded north of Retlaw in 1909. She belonged to the Ladies' Aid Society, the Women's Institute and actively supported their charitable causes, but most of all she enjoyed being a member of the Evangelical Free Church. She was a founder and enthusiatic benefactor of the Southern Alberta Bible Camp. She was very fortunate to have many supportive and loyal friends in Vauxhall who were always concerned about her well being.
Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, December 20 at 7:30 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Tuesday, December 21, 1999 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Tony Hansen, Pastor Vern Beck and Pastor Harry Ruggles officiating. Interment followed at the Vauxhall Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 - 10 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 2M7, to the CNIB, 1119 - 3 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J OJ5 or to the Southern Alberta Bible Camp, Lomond, Alberta TOL 1GO.
The family wish to acknowledge the staff at the Clearview Lodge in Taber and the Edith Cavell Centre for their loving care over the past two years
