Helen R. Larsen/Larson 1896-1949When Helen married she changed her name from Larsen to Larson, but if she had had her "druthers", her full name might have been Lars Lewis Larsen, Jr., (befor her marriage!), for she loved to do things that were reserved for boys, and she was a "fixer" with a mechanical apptitude. She was Grandpa Larsen's "right hand man" when he delivered meat in the horse drawn wagon shown in the picture section. All her life she drove the family car-- was one of the first women drivers in the county. She enjoyed playing "kitten" bal l and football with her family, and was good at it. But she was also a good mother and teacher and served as President of the Farther Lights (woman's society) of the First Baptist Church of Clarks Grove for many years. During World War II, three of her sons and her one son-in-law were in service at the same time, and son, John, enlisted in the Navy a s soon as he was old enough. Early in their married life, Helen & Albert lived on the farm across from the Clarks Grove Cemetery, the same farm that Grandpa and Grandma had live d on for a time, the one where they dried the family laundry in the church which was located on the cemetery grounds! Later they moved about 1/2 mile north to the farm on which they spent the remainder of their lives. Albert dying in 1946 from arteriosclerosis and Helen in 1949, a victim of stomach cancer.
