Herbert A. Brockington, retired farmer and carpenter of the Nesmith section of Williamsburg County, died at 12:20 a.m. today in the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Hemingway. He died on his 80th birthday.
Funeral services will be held at Nesmith Baptist Church, of which he was a member, at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Jerome McKenzie, pastor. Burial, directed by the Morris Funeral Home, will be in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be W. J. Cooper Jr., Sammie Rogers, Joe McLean, Furman Tallevast, Bill Nesmith and Mitchell Heidt.
Mr. Brockington's wife, Mrs. Mary Oliver Nesmith Brockington, died in 1934. The following children survive: four daughters, Mrs. Clarence Lewis and Mrs. Hazel Tisdale (Hazel was husband's given name) of Nesmith, Mrs. Willard Brown of Kingstree, Mrs. Robert E. Crowden of Bethesda, Md.; three sons, Karl Brockington of Kingstree, George Brockington and Franklin Brockington of Nesmith; 25 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Lizzie McCullough and Mrs. Ida Cox of Brunswick, Ga., Mrs. Cary Anderson of Savannah, Ga., Mrs. W. J. Cooper and Mrs. Walter Ferdon of Nesmith; two brothers, Charlie Brockington of Andrews and W. R. Brockington of Nesmith.
Morris Funeral Home is in charge.
