Delma Moorehead Syler, age 88 of Hixson, went home to be with her Lord January 22, 2007. She was born on November 9, 1916 in Moore County. She gave her heart to Jesus when she was nine years old, and has served Him ever since. She joined the Church of the Nazarene in 1942 and has been a faithful member for almost 67 years. On November 24, 1938, she married here husband, J. C. Syler, a marriage of 68 years. Mrs. Syler was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Janie Moorehead; a son, Joel Wayne Syler; brothers, Thurman, Joe, Johnny, and Charlie H. Moorehead, and sisters, Amber Holt and Ruby Farris. She is survived by her husband, J. C. Syler; grandsons, Darrell Syler of Pikeville, James Derrick Syler and wife, Michelle, of Sumner, Washington, and their mother, Lillie Syler of Hixson; a granddaughter, Ashton McMullin of Hixson; great-grandchildren, Dustin Wayne Syler of Hixson, Kaitlyn Syler of Washington; and three sisters, Ellie Burrow, Mary Lena Bean, and Janie Bertice Tipps. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home in Soddy Daisy with Rev. Justin Naues officiating. Interment will follow in the Harrison Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be James Derrick Syler, Dustin Wayne Syler, A. L. Shasteen, Jr., Randy Moorehead, Adam Caldwell, Edward Shasteen, and Daniel Lynn.
