Jeremiah Reynolds was, by birthright, a member of The Society of Friends. He was the son of William Reynolds (1701-1773) and William's first wife, Mary Brown (1706-1739). Born in Chester County, Pennsylvania some fifthy years before the American Revolution, he would die a citizen of the United States of America in 1815 at his home in Randolph County, North Carolina. He removed with his family to North Carolina in 1751. Then, on May 15, 1755 he married Susannah/Susanna Chamness (1738-1812) in a Quaker union that was recorded in the Monthly Meeting notes of Cane Creek Friends Meeting (at that time located in the parent county of Orange; later known as Alamance County when it was formed, in 1849, from part of Orange County). Jeremiah and Susanna had these children:
