Conrad John Iler was born in 1749 in Mannheim, York, Pennsylvania, the son of John Jacob Eyler and Anna Maria Fohl of Germany. He married Anna Maria Fuchs

and they had 13 children: Conrad John Jr., John Frederick, Catherine, Elizabeth, John Peter, Johann Philip, Susanna, Heinrich, Wilhelm, John Jacob, Barbara and Margaret. The family originally lived at Conewago, then on September 18, 1779, Conrad Eiler purchased land in Frederick County, a couple of miles north of Woodsboro, from his brother, Valentine. These two tracts of twenty-five acres each, were originally known as New Georgia and Muddy Spring and may have been incorporated into a larger tract and are believed to be the original Eyler farm. Conrad became a very influential man in the community and had a farm of five-hundred and thirty-three acres at the time of his death. After Conrad and Barbara move to Maryland they were members of Rocky Hill Lutheran Church and from these church records we find Barbara's full name. He bequeathed to his son Jacob a tract of fifty acres known as Resurvey on Good Neighbor. To his son John Eyler he bequeathed a tract of two-hundred and thrity-nine acres known as Long Bottom Enlarged. He bequeathed to his son Conrad Iler a tract of land known as Woodland which adjoined the land of John Stambaugh, and also his home plantation known as Ilers Character containing about one-hundred and seventy acres. His personal estate was sold and divided equally among his wife Barbara and seven children. In 1955, when John S. Eilar, a genealogist of the family, visited the old Iler cemetery, it had been destroyed and cultivated. He discovered three tombstones projecting through a mound of dirt and grass along a fence. They bore the following incriptions: Conrad Iler, Died June 22, 1816, Aged 67; Barbara Iler, Died May 22, 1831, Aged 83 Years; Conrad Iler, Jr., Died Nove. 21, 1850, Aged 71 Years.
