George Thomas Salyers was born March 16, 1888 and died April 5, 1946. He married Sarah Kathryn Austin on October 6, 1911. From this union, George and Sarah had 11 children: Martha Lucinda, John William "JW", Bessie Frances, Bill Thomas, Charlie Dolphus, Ibbie Victoria, Myrtle Anne, Effie Mae, Henry Ford, Robert Nathan, and Margaret "Maggie."

George was the son of John Salyer who was born May 1858 and Eunice Salyer. Eunice was born about 1863 or 1864. Birth records for 1863 and 1864 are missing from Russell County Birth Records. She and John were married March 18, 1880. Records indicate that John was 23 and Eunice was 16 when they married. John Salyers was the son of William and Margaret Castle Salyers. Eunice mother was Esther Salyer. Esther Salyer married Larkin Porter. However, on the marriage record of Russell County, it lists Esther Salyer as the mother of Eunice, but does not list a father. Esther Salyer's father was William Salyer who married Lucinda Castle.

On the marriage records for Russell County, John Salyer's parents are listed as William L. and Margaret Salyers. Russell County records show William L. and Margaret Castle
Salyer were married July 7, 1854. The record lists the parents of William as David and Malinda Salyer and the parents of Margaret as John and Jerusha Castle.

George Thomas Salyers, his Wife, Sarah and his parents all lived in Russell County, Virginia. George was a farmer. On the birth certificate of their first child, Martha Lucinda, it notes that George's Birthplace was "Mason's Store, Va." It also notes that he was a "Laborer" George was 25 when Martha was born and his wife, Sarah, was 18.

Note: Some "Salyers" spelled their name with the "s" on the end and others did not. You will note George Thomas Salyers has the "s" and it is on his memorial stone, but records show his Father, John, and his Mother, Eunice, did not have an "s." This makes it even more difficult to track family lines when researching. Earlier ancestors of George and John spelled their name "Sallier." There are other variations of the name as the line is traced backward.
