John "Jay" or "JW" William Salyers was born October 29, 1914 and went to be with the Lord in 1983. He was the son of George Thomas Salyers and Sarah Kathryn Austin Salyers. His Dad, George Thomas, was the son of John Salyers and Eunice Salyers.

Jay married Rose Sheets (Mahaffey) in McDowell, W. Va. in 1936 and from this union, they had four children; Rand Salyer, Barbara Ann Salyer, Billie Louise Salyer Meade Phillips and Julie Salyer Harmon.

Jay came from a large family of ten brothers and sisters;
Martha Lucinda Salyers Boothe, Bessie Frances Salyers Boothe, Bill Thomas Salyers, Charlie Dolphus Salyers, Ibbie Victoria Salyers Sims Hicks, Myrtle Anne Salyers Munsey, Cookson, Dodd, Effie Mae Salyers Warren, Henry Ford Salyers, Robert Nathan Salyers and Margaret "Maggie" Salyers Austin, Terlikowski.

Jay was a farmer. He raised tobacco as well as other crops on his land in Russell County, Virginia where he lived most of his life. In earlier years, he tried his hand at coal mining. He was a gentle man, never known to raise his voice unless the subject matter came to politics. He kept up on current events and could argue politics with the best of them. He was a family man. His and Rose's house was always filled with the sound of joy and laughter from the children and grand children.

He is sadly missed by his family and friends.
