Shirley Dixon-Smith, 66, of Indianapolis died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at North Capitol Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Indianapolis.

Born Oct. 26, 1942, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Robert and Fern (Rutherford) Dixon. She married James E. Smith, and he survives.

Other survivors include her sons, Michael Robinson and Bryan Robinson, both of Indianapolis; daughter, Angela Oliver of Kentucky; sisters, Dolly Jacobs and Pauline Jacobs, both of Shelbyville, Beatrice Graham of Kentucky and Blanche Gibson of Indianapolis; brothers, Tom Dixon of Spencer, Roscoe Dixon of Shelbyville and Edmond Dixon of New Mexico; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Luvern Jacobs.

Mrs. Dixon-Smith had been a beautician and also a licensed practical nurse, working in the Indianapolis area.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Major Marlene Edwards officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
