Marvin E. "Pop" Clark, age 102, of Crossnore passed away on Wednesday January 06, 2010.

A native of Avery County, he was born June 16, 1909 a son of the late Elgie and Margaret Bowman Clark.

He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School for over 50 years and served as deacon for countless years. After his term as deacon, he remained an honorary deacon. He loved his church, doing church work and reading his Bible.

Pop was a carpenter as well as a cabinet maker and master craftsmen. He was also an avid gardner.

He was a kind and patient man who loved his family and friends. He was always ready to lend a hand for help or support. Pop was one who always had a word of encouragement and always revealed his love and deep appreciation for God. He was thankful for all things and always praised God for health and longevity. He was rich with friends and for the love and compassion of others.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Emma Jane Clark; two sons, Jimmy Dale and Melvin Clark; and two sons-in-law: David Dellinger and Richard Buchanan.

Left to cherish his memories are: his children; Charles Clark and wife Elizabeth of St. Michaels, MD, Marjorie Warren and husband Arthur of Monroe, GA, Esther Dellinger of Crossnore, Lonnie Clark and wife Ondrea of Roan Mtn., Daniel Clark and wife Glenda of Hildebran, Terry Clark and wife Sheila of Drexal, Tony Clark and wife Donna of Newland and Linda Buchanan of Crossnore; sisters, Pearl Buchanan of Morganton, Dovie Mae Ide of SanBernadino, CA and Cora Coffey of Lenoir; 16 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Clark will be held on Saturday January 9th at 12:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Fuenral Home. Rev. Tony Clark and Rev. Don Julian will officiate. The family will recieve friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Harpers Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be; Melvin Clark, Jr., Charles Clark, Jr., Chad Clark, Danny Clark, Randy Clark, Alton Dellinger and Christopher Buchanan. Honorary pallbearers will be; Keith Ashley, Kenny Barlow and Michael Ward.

In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made in Pops memory to Mt. Pleasant Bapstist Church C/O Tony Clark at 2948 Cow Camp Rd. Newland, NC 28657.
