John William Beard, 71, died unexpectedly Friday at his home in Harrison Township. Dr. W. C. Trapp, county coroner, ruled that his death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.
Mr. Beard was a retired farmer and also a retired employee of General Electric Co. at Decatur.
A son of Philip and Catherine (Kelly) Beard, he was born April 13, 1897, in Harrison Township. With the exception of a year in Fort Wayne, he resided all his life in Van Wert County.
Surviving are his widow, Marie M. (Allmandinger) Beard, whom he married March 31, 1921; six sons, Carl W. of Van Wert, Robert O. of Monroeville, Leo W. of Decatur, Bill E. of Monroeville, and Russell L. and Paul R. Beard, both of Convoy; a daughter, Miss Lola Marie Beard at home.
Also surviving are a brother, Sylvester of Butler, Ind; six sisters, Mrs. Oliver Stetler of Ohio City, Mrs. Eddie Kocks and Mrs. Carey Brittson of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Ralph Carlock and Mrs. Ralph King of Belivue and Mrs. Bert Woods of Rt. 2, Ohio City, and 21 grandchildren. A brother, Carey, is deceased.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Cowan and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Von Giessler will officiate and burial will be in Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 o'clock tonight.
