"Death of J. Cecil - Homer Has Lost a Respected Resident - Rev. O. K Doney went to Homer this afternoon to preach the funeral service of the late James Cecil, a devoted member of the Homer Christian church, of which Rev. Mr. Doney is pastor. Mr. Cecil had been confined to bed for nearly a year with a disease similar to tuberculosis. He leaves a wife and four small children and many friends to mourn his loss." - Urbana Daily Courier, January 20, 1905, page 1

"The funeral of James Cecil took place Saturday afternoon, services being conducted by Rev. O. K. Doney at the Christian church, of which the deceased was a member. The interment was at Grand Army cemetery. Mr. Cecil is survived by a wife and four children, who are provided for by $1,600 insurance in the American Home Circle and $1,600 in the Fraternal army.
