LINCOLN, Neb.-- Richard L. Hofmann, 92, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at Lincoln.

Mr. Hofmann was born Nov. 19, 1919 at Clay Center, Kan., the son of Charles and Katy Hofmann.

He graduated from Clay County Community High School where he won letters in tennis, track and basketball.

He worked in a Chevrolet garage during the summers while in high school.

He started working at the J.C. Penney store after graduation and then in St. Joseph, Mo. He later managed a department store in Lyons, Kan. He earned a pilots license also.

Enlisting in the Air Force in 1942, Rick became a Staff Sgt and served in Sicily and Italy and was later recalled during the Korean War and was stationed in England.

In 1957, he married Beulah Still while working at the Maytag Co. for four years in Newton, Iowa. They moved to Lincoln and he opened a Midas auto service in April 1959, which he operated for 25 years until his retirement in 1984.

Memberships included Elks, American Legion, Optimist Club, Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and First Christian Church.

After a large contribution to the Optimist Club, a baseball field was named after him and his wife. An organ and pipe facade was given to First Christian Church in his wife's memory, where she sang in the choir for many years. He was a member and officer of the First Christian Church's Foundation, as well as a deacon and elder.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beulah; his parents; two brothers Dale and Marvin Hofmann; sisters and husbands; Bernadine and Larry Arnett, Erma and LeRoy Mull and Malinda and Art Trickle.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Joan Hofmann of Holiday Island, Ark. and Maxine Benson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, 430 So. 16th , Lincoln, NE on Monday, Sept. 24 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Lincoln Memorial Park Garden Mausoleum. Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to: First Christian Church Foundation or donor's choice
