Ida Parker was born in Carthage, Texas shortly after her family arrived in Texas from Georgia with seven children. She was immediately nicknamed Texas and it stuck to her throughout her life. After her birth, another child was born to Moses and Mary, which they gave the name of Nola, and she was nicknamed Panola for the county of her birth. One could almost believe that the parents were proud of their new home in the West!
Texas and J. Q. Vanderburg were married in 1890 in Carthage. Three of their four children were born in Carthage, Texas. About 1896 the couple took their small family toward Indian Territory which later became Oklahoma, where their fourth child was born. John Quitman died in Montague County, Texas in 1898, and was buried in Belcherville. The brother of Texana, Alonzo, took the family back to Carthage in a wagon. The 1900 Texas census showed Texas as head of household living next door to her brother and his family, which was just shortly before his death.
By 1903, Texanna had married J. T. Browning with whom she had two more children. J. T. died by 1924. She was living in a Nursing Home in San Angelo, Texas when she died. One of the happiest pictures of Texas was when she sat for the photo of four generations, as she held her great grandchild.
