When James William "Jim" Forbis was born on March 5, 1898 in Wellington, Collingsworth County, Texas, his father, William M. Forbis, was 32 and his mother, Laura Effie Richards, was 22. Jim Forbis graduated from Wellington High School with the Class of 1916. He married Edna Elizabeth Stall on September 14, 1916. They were the parents of one daughter, Adeline Garvin Forbis.

Jim later lived in Shamrock and Wheeler, Texas for about 5 years and Pampa, Texas in 1940. In Shamrock, James had a cleaning plant and clothing store. At the beginning of World War II, they moved to California.

Jim passed away on May 19, 1956 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 58, and was buried in Whittier, Los Angeles County, California.
