Galveston V. Montgomery was the youngest son of Samuel C. and Lydia (Beldsoe-Easterday) Montgomery. He was born 24 February 1838 in Carroll County, Kentucky. His mother was the widow of Lewis Easterday, Jr., with 3 children between the ages of 5 and 1, when she married Samuel C. Montgomery.

He was only 8 years old when his father died on 15 April 1846.

Galveston served as a private in Company G, 6th Battalion, Confederate Cavalry during the Civil War.

Galveston was almost 30 years old when he married Susanna (Farris) Easterday, the widow of his half-brother, Thomas Lewis Easterday, on 11 December 1867 in Carroll County. When they wed she was almost 42, with four children between the age of 12 and 6 still at home.

Galveston and Susan had one child:

  • Elizabeth (Montgomery) Markland-Doke-Chandler - (1870-1941) aged 70

Susan died on 18 November 1907.

Gal died 3 April 1918 in Easterday, Carroll County. Although Galveston was the last known burial in the cemetery and a marker for him has been transcribed, his marker has not been found to photograph. His death certificate states he is buried in the Montgomery Cemetery but it is believed this is the correct cemetery.

Susan is buried in the in the northwest corner of the Easterday cemetery, next to her first husband, Gal's half-brother, Thomas Easterday. Her marker is similar to Thomas' but her name is Montgomery on the stone. Gal is probably buried in this same row most likely on the other side of Susan or between Thomas and their mother Lydia (Bledsoe) Easterday-Montgomery.
