Born October 13, 1925, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clifford O. and Hilda Grone Dickson. On June 15, 1946, she married John R. Stewart in Burlington. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1986. On October 24, 1992, she married Melvin A. Sommerfeld in Burlington.
Mrs. Sommerfeld was a 1943 graduate of Burlington High School. She worked at Schramm and Schmeig, General Electric and in bookkeeping for John's Auto Service, and part-time at the Arion Restaurant and Parties Unlimited.
Mrs. Sommerfeld was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church, Eagles, Ladies of the Moose, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and Blackhawk Booster Club. She enjoyed bowling, cross-stitch, knitting and sewing, and was a master mint maker.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin Sommerfeld of Burlington; one son, Jeffrey (Connie) Stewart of Burlington; two grandchildren, Landon and Jenna Stewart; three sisters, Naomi "Dede" (Al) Mark, Emma "Loretta" (Dick) Maass and Shirley (Dick) Diewold all of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, first husband, two brothers, Homer and Otho, and one sister, Marilda "Lolly" Sloan preceded her in death.
Friends may call after noon on Friday, November 27th, in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends following a 5:00 p.m. Christian Wake Service until 8:00 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Sommerfeld will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 28th, in St. John's Catholic Church. The Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf and the Rev. Bruce DeRammelaere will be the celebrants. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and SS. John and Paul Catholic Church.
