The Late J. F. Duckworth

The remains of Joseph Franklin Duckworth, aged 25 years, who was killed Thursday night, August 1, in a motorcycle accident near Kalamazoo, Michigan, arrive here Thursday morning, and were taken to the home of Miss Amick at Luck, where the funeral service was conducted yesterday afternoon. Rev. Douglass Amick, of Newport, Tenn., who is visiting in this vicinity, officiated.

Mr. Duckworth was fatally injured about 9 o'clock Thursday evening when he was riding a motorcycle on a stretch of road which was under construction. Though no one saw the accident, the supposition is that he ran into a steam shovel and was thrown against a pole nearby. His skull was crushed. He was found shortly after the accident and removed to the Borges Hospital, Kalamazoo, but expired while enroute.

A son of Phillip Duckworth, formerly of Westernport, he was born in this community but removed with his family from here at an early age. Before going to Kalamazoo he was employed by the Western Maryland Railway Company as fireman on the switching engine in the yards at Luke.

His widow the former Winnie Smith, daughter of Mrs. George Grant, of Beryl, who attended Bruce High school, Westernport, until shortly before the end of her senior year, when she dropped studies to be married. On son, Frank, ten months old, survives.

Mr. Duckworth also leaves his father, Phillip Duckworth, of near Deer Park, and three sisters, Mar. Walter Van Gleson, New York City; Miss Nina Duckworth, Oakmont, W. Va., and Miss Katheryn Harvey, Deer Park, Md.
