"Caroline Chastaine married George A. Maddox, a farmer of Monroe county, Missouri. In 1864 they moved to Oregon where they continued their agricultural pursuits. She is a woman of unusual strength of mind and body. At the advanced age of ninety years she is still living (1901) near Amity, Oregon, a consistent member of the Christian Church ."
