Wife of Thomas Bowne, shearman of Limetree Farm.

There is no known surviving record of her first name, nor of her burial.

Mrs. Thomas Bowne of Limetree Farm probably died in Matlock sometime between the birth of her daughter Dorothy (who was baptized on 14 August 1631) and the start of the surviving burial register (which commences on 11 November 1637).

Although Bowne family of Flushing, Long Island by Edith King Wilson (published in 1948; page 3) claims that the mother of John Bowne was named Mary and that she died in Matlock on 8 August 1647, there is no such record in the Matlock burial register.

Instead, the burial entry in question reads: "Mary uxor Thomas Rossonne sepult Agst [8]" (see Mary, wife of Thomas Rawson, buried August [9]). This is the only burial entry for August 1647.

There is no record of her name in the burial register elsewhere, nor in the marriage and baptismal registers, which do not survive prior to 1637.

Unfortunately, there is also no mention of her in John Bowne's personal journal.

Mrs. Thomas Bowne is thought to have died in Matlock prior to the emigration in 1649 of Thomas Bowne and his children John and Dorothy to Massachusetts as there is no record of her in America.
