NAPLES, Fla. —Bernadine Mae (Dawes) Ayers passed peacefully Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, in Naples. She was comforted by her children during her final illness.
She was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Urbana, Ind., to Everett Lee and Edna Ruth (Cook) Dawes, who preceded her in death.
Bernie worked at Kirk's Jewelry, Shroat's Market, Myer's Jewel and at Indiana Contact Lens. She resided in Marion most of her life but lived in Naples for the past 12 years.
Bernie was a deeply religious person and had made peace with her Lord prior to her passing. She attended the Open Door Fellowship Church in Swayzee.
Survivors include daughter, Sandy (Steve) Kellar, Overland Park, Kan.; sons, Larry (Patty) Ayers and Kim (Dee Ratz) Ayers, both of Naples; sisters, Betty (Wayne) Brubaker and Patty (Keith) Wilder, both of Marion, and Peggy (Rex) Sims of Naples. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her brother, Gerald "Pete" Dawes, and sisters Donna Wilder and Quinneth Darlene Dawes preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, with Rev. Jim Miller of Open Door Fellowship Church and Kevin Wilder, her nephew of Hesston, Kan., officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park, Marion.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the missions in care of Open Door Fellowship Church.
