GREENSBORO- Mrs. Hazel D. Bailey, 96, died Sunday, February 4, 2007, at Moses Cone Hospital.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sharpe Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Alton Cook and her grandson, the Rev. Wesley Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bailey was born in Chatham County, N.C. June 9, 1910, to John and Swannie Sykes Dawkins. She was the wife of the late Troy H. Bailey and the oldest member of Sharpe Road Baptist Church. She loved her Lord, her family, gardening, flowers, cooking and doing for others. Her little dog "Cookie" was a very important part of her life.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Bert Bailey and Dan Bailey, sisters, Lucille Nance and Hilda Dawkins, brothers, Everette Dawkins and Lewis Dawkins.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by her daughters, Helen Compton, Gattie Greeson, and husband Roy, all of Greensboro; sons, Millard "Moe" Bailey and wife Judy, of Greensboro, Troy Bailey and wife Barbara, of Bailey; sisters Vickie Stout, of Asheboro, Swannie Patterson, of Broadway, Beulah Minor, of Raleigh, and Pat Ellis, of Sanford; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
