Marjorie G. Bennett, 75, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, J.B. Bennett; her mother, Stella M. Goodwin; her father, William H. Goodwin; and two sisters, Shelby Mahoney and Laura Mae Brown.
Margie was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association Unit 99, as well as a member of Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church. She did not work outside the home. Marge was a very strong lady who was devoted to her family. Her family and friends could always depend on her strength and wisdom. She was comforted by her strong faith and shared that with others right up to the end. Family was the most important thing in Margies life and she was equally loving and accepting towards all. All valued and depended on her strength and counsel and she will be greatly missed.
Surviving are two sons, C.W. Meixel Jr. and his wife Sonja of Canton, Ga., and John Bennett and his wife Leigh of Chesapeake; four daughters, Patsy Bernard of Virginia Beach, Gloria Hatten and her husband Paul of Woodstock, Ga., Kathy Lehman and her husband Paul of Virginia Beach and Beth Shelton and her husband Eddie of Lincolnton, N.C.; five sisters, Lona Martin, Mary Johnson and her husband Gene, Page Latrace and her husband Gary, Lola Sampley and her husband Ron and Stella Smith, all of Virginia Beach; brother, Buddy Goodwin; three brothers-in-law, Willie Bennett and his wife Yvonne, Bass and Roy Bennett, all of Burnsville, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church by the Rev. Carl LeMon. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, today from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church Building Fund, 245 South Rosemont Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452 or The Diabetes Institutes Foundation, 855 Brambleton Ave., Norfolk, VA 23510.
