Mr. Blaker was a long time Atoka County area resident.

Born May 19, 1920 at Antlers, Oklahoma to Tom E. and Nannie Catherine (Surrett) Blaker.

Passed away Sunday August 27, 2006 at the Atoka Memorial Hospital.

Age: 86 years - 3 months - 8 days

Homer attended Dulburg and Prairie View Schools.

Married Tommie J. Wisdom on August 4, 1941 at
Wickenburg, Arizona.

Homer worked for Borden Dairy in Phoenix, AZ. for ten years before returning to Atoka, Oklahoma in 1951 where he purchased "Able Grocery".

Homer stayed in the grocery business many years. His store in Atoka was named "The Atoka Food Center" and when he first opened it up he had little mini stagecoach rides that I remember well. My first bicycle I had my mom and dad put a basket on the handlebars and I was able to ride down the street a few short blocks and get some small items of groceries. Mr. Blaker would tease me when I'd ask for "Honest Snuff" cause it was for my dad and I got to where when I'd go to the store I'd tell Mr. Blaker "ITS NOT FOR ME"...He got a kick out of that.
Later on when I was in high school he purchased a burger place next door to his grocery store and he named it "Blakers Beef Burger" and was very good place to eat.
Mr. Blaker retired in 1994.

Homer was a longtime member of the South Atoka Church of Christ. He served on the Atoka City Council for 8 years and was a member of the Atoka County Jaycees.
