Margaret "Elaine" Whitson was born March 25, 1916 in Valley City to Louis and Henrietta Whitson. She was raised there and graduated from Valley City High School. She married Brian Smutzler in 1942 in Las Vegas. They lived in Culver City, Calif. until the mid 1940's when they moved to Minot. They divorced in 1954.
She married Earl Johnson June 4, 1955 in Minot. They farmed in Grilley Township, McHenry County and in Prescott Township, Renville County. They later moved to Minot. Earl died February 3, 1989.
She is survived by sons: Neil and Lance; daughter, Dana Henson, and a brother, Carl.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie "Bunky" Corbin.
