Karen, 61, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014. She was born to Joseph & Marian Dunigan.

She is survived by her loving 7 brothers and 4 sisters; Joe (Candy), Diane (Fred) Smith, David (Sharon), Tim, Mary Jo (John) Schultz, Dan (Karen), Steve (Kristi), Patty (Leo) Sete, Charlie (Laurie), Jane (Tau) Uhila, Patrick (Lucy); and numerous nieces & nephews and grand-nieces & grand nephews; also very special friends Al Spiess, Linda & Carl English; Life-long friends Karyn Kennedy, M. Lynn Miller and Julie Hetherwick.

She was preceded in death by her mother & father Joseph & Marian Dunigan, and grandnephew Benjamin J. Evans.

Karen F. Dunigan presently served as Regional Vice President of Community Relations for Howard Hanna Real Estate Services. She proudly served the City of Jackson as it's Mayor in 2009-2011, was a Board Member of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra for 8 years and served as co-chair for its Fund Development Committee, is a member of Jackson Citizens for Economic Growth, a Member of the Jackson Area Association of Realtors, Chair for the annual Baker Tea for the past 12 years, Co-Chaired for the Ella Sharp Museum Five Million Dollar Capital Campaign, presently serves on the RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program) Board, the Jackson Chorale Board, serves as an advisor for the Jackson Arts Council, committee member for the task force for the new JPEC (Jackson Preparatory Early College) at Jackson College and a member of the Legislative Committee for the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.

Karen was recognized as one of Jackson's 2007 Distinguished Citizens for Jackson County, and is a recipient of the Athena Award (2011) and the Susan B. Anthony Award (2011).

Karen is the Founder of 100(+) Women Who Care which has contributed over $475 thousand dollars to local Charities since 2006 and over 30 new chapters, have been established, throughout the United States.

Karen was the Regional Vice President of Community Relations for Howard Hanna Real Estate Services and an Associate Broker. She had over 33 years' experience in the Jackson real estate market as one of the premier brokers for residential and commercial real estate.

Karen spent her free time doing needlework, gourmet cooking and spending time with friends and family. Family was of the utmost importance to Karen being one of 12 children.

A Memorial Mass took place at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church on Tuesday April 22, 2014 with Father Tim MacDonald officiating, private family interment at a later date. A rosary was held.

In Lieu of flowers, Karen has requested that contributions be made to Queen's of the Miraculous Medal School, JSO Youth Symphony, Ella Sharp Youth Arts Programs.
