Frank Smarelli, 91, of Worcester St., died Friday, Oct. 7th 2011, in the Overlook Masonic Healthcare Center, Charlton, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Hilda (Buccilli) Smarelli; two daughters, Jo-Ann Barnes and her husband Herbert of Holliston and Dawn Quigley and her husband Paul of Southbridge; a sister, Camilla Rojecki of Windsor, CT; six grandchildren, Scott Barnes, Jeffrey Barnes, Matthew Quigley, Jonathan Barnes, Michael Quigley and Meagan Quigley; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Columbia Cygan and Ida Trifone, who passed away last month. He was born in Southbridge the son of Eustachio and Giovinna (Santelli) Smarelli. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II serving in the 4th Armored Division.

Frank worked for many years for the US Postal Service in Southbridge and later in Worcester, retiring many years ago. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Southbridge, a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Southbridge, a member of the Italian American Club in Southbridge and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Southbridge. He was an avid Red Sox fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 14th, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church of the Blessed John Paul II Parish, 267 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Southbridge. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society , 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

The Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.
