Jack served in the United States Air Force for 30 years. He retired as a master sergeant and then was employed by the Roxana School District and Vandalia Bus Lines. Barbara owned and operated Barb's Beauty Shop in South Roxana, Illinois for 10 years.
They were members of the First Southern Baptist Church in South Roxana, Illinois.
At the time of his death at Alton Memorial Hospital, Jack was 82 years, 9 months and 4 days old.
He was survived by 2 daughters and 1 step-daughter, and their husbands; 1 son and daughter-in-law; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Frances Hill Johnson; 1 step-sister, "Lee" Freiner Rice; and 1 step-brother, Charles Freiner.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; 1 step-daughter, Donna Sue Freiner; 1 brother, Thomas "Buss" Hill; and 2 step-brothers, George L. Freiner and Robert E. "Bob" Freiner.
Visitation was held on 11 Feb 2001 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. the following morning at the First Southern Baptist Church in South Roxana.
Burial was with full military services.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the American Cancer Society.
