Leroy A. Geurink, 74, of Durant, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Manor Care Nursing Home, Davenport.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. A memorial has been established.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 24, at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. The Rev. Darin Lovelace will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by organist, Deb Mohr. Casket bearers are Luke Geurink, Jeff Geurink, Bill Cawiezell, Bob Cawiezell, John Cawiezell and Jim Hamilton. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the Durant American Legion Post 430.

Leroy Alphonso Geurink was born February 19, 1930, in Muscatine County, Iowa, the son of Alphonso and Leona (Kook) Geurink. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955, attached to the 293rd Grave Registration Company. He married Elizabeth F. (Altmann) Feldhahn on January 24, 1953, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on September 5, 1994.

He farmed in Cedar County, retiring in 1970. He later worked for B & B Feeds, Wilton, until he purchased it in 1976. He owned and operated Geurink and Son Feed until it was purchased by Duffe Grain in 1987. He continued to work for Duffe Grain, retiring in 2000. He still worked part-time until his death. He was one of the oldest Quad-City Times paperboys, still delivering until his stroke four weeks ago. He was a life member of the Durant American Legion Post 430. He enjoyed polka music and was the neighborhood lawn man.

Survivors include one son, Randall (Polly) Geurink of Durant; one step-daughter, Judy (Keith) Morton of Blue Grass; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Bernard (Sally) Geurink of Durant; and one sister, Elaine (Larry) Thede of Bloomington, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
