∼Charles was the son of Ebenezer Griffin Cherry and the second child of Mary Amanda Shumway Cherry. Born in Richmond, Cashe County, Utah. His father died when he was 23 his mother had already passed on. The family moved around a lot, but Charles never talked about his childhood so not much is known.
He married Nancy Jane Bennett at Franklin, Idaho in 1891 and they settled on an 80 acre homestead in Mapleton, Idaho. Seven of his children were born there. About 1902 the family moved to Vernon then Ora and finally homesteaded 80 acres in Sarilda Idaho.
It took two years for Charles to build a two room log cabin with dirt roof and rough board floor. Slowly the ground was cleared of sage brush and wheat planted, the remainder of his children were born there. He had one cow, a red durham which was very good. Charles did not like vegetables and never grew a garden. The family lived on milk and bread most or the time. Some times the neighbors would give them vegetables to have with there milk and bread and the kids loved them.
It was said that Charles was a hard worker, he died a the age of 73 at St. Anthony Idaho.
