Joseph Nett, 82, Foxholm, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004, in a Minot Hospital.

Joseph Valentine Nett was born July 17, 1922 the son of Andrew and Anna (Backes) Nett in Muskego Township, Renville County. He was reared and attended Barney-Google school through the 8th grade, upon which he took two years of correspondence classes.

He served his country in WWII in the Navy from June 1945 until May 1946. He finished his Navy career in Hawaii, when he was honorably discharged.

He married Montez (Sanders) on February 6, 1945 at St. Leos Catholic Church, Minot. They spent time in Camp Parks, CA while Joe was in the Navy before moving back to North Dakota in May of 1946. After returning to North Dakota, Joseph ran the grocery store in Foxholm, along with helping his father-in-law in the operation of the farm.

In 1953, Joe and Montez purchased a piece of pasture land, in which they developed their farmstead. It was then that Joseph began a farming career of his own. He also built houses and sold crop insurance for several years.

Joe enjoyed playing the accordion with friends. He played with the Good Old Guys, entertaining at retirement homes, the Norsk Hostfest, and numerous other functions. He also enjoyed fishing, farming, and traveling with Montez in their motor home. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Joe was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he served as a trustee for numerous years, the Holy Name Society, the Foxholm school board, the Minot American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by, his parents Andrew and Anna, sisters, Irene Dufner, Clara Philips, Katie Hensen, Suzy Jevne Wiess, and brother John.
