Death of Rev. B. D. Ames.

At Mechanicville on Wednesday, Rev. Bernice D. Ames, principal of the academy in that village, died, in the forty-ninth year of his age. The deceased had a large circle of acquaintance in this part of New York state and in Vermont. He was a native of Shoreham in the last named state. He graduated at Middlebury in 1853. While teacher in the Fort Plain seminary he married Miss Sarah E. King, sister of Dr. B. W. King of this village. Subsequently he with his wife taught at Fort Edward. For some time he was an active clergyman in the Methodist church. In 1868 he took charge of the academy at Mechanicville, in which position he spent the last years of his life, during a part of which time he has had to struggle against the disadvantage of ill health. Prof. Ames was a man who made friends fast and held them by kindness of heart guided by good judgement and a due appreciation of the responsibility which his occupation imposed on him. The funeral will take place from the Methodist church, Mechanicville, tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 o'clock. One year ago the day Prof. Ames died, his daughter Florence, an estimable young lady, departed this life.
