MECHANICVILLE - A most representative and sympathetic assemblage was that which met Saturday in the Methodist church to attend the funeral of Mrs. Minnie King Ames Coates, who in days past had been a leader in every position with her late mother, Mrs. Ames from the school room to the church. Mrs. Coates was a noble woman. She had passed every grade in the Mechanicville Academy, graduated from Vassar College and received the degree of A. B. from the New England University. Rev. Mr. Smith of the Methodist Church preached a most eloquent sermon for the dead, paying a well deserved tribute. Rev. Joseph E. King of Fort Edward, uncle of the deceased, also spoke. Professor Charles Ames of Buffalo, her brother, and George King of Johnsonville were present, with others from Watervliet, Troy, Waterford, Saratoga, Fort Edward, Jonesville and Plattsburgh. A quartette, R. H. Hufstader, Allen Van Wie, Miss Vines and Mrs. A. J. Harvey, sang sweetly, "Abide With Me," "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" and "Asleep in Jesus." The bearers were Daniel Dickinson, Herbert O. Bailey, R. V. Tompkins, Joseph H. Packer and Henry G. Edmonds, of Mechanicville, and Samuel Ware of Watervliet. The floral offerings at the casket from the family and friends were most beautiful tributes. The funeral arrangements were in chrage of Director Mace. Mrs. Ames, mother of Mrs. Coates died two years ago last September. (This article was taken from the Troy Daily Times newspaper, Troy, N. Y., Monday Afternoon, April 19, 1897, by L.
