Mattie A. Casto was born on February 16, 1864, to the proud parents Rev. Nicholas Lee and Mary Margaret Koontz Casto. Mattie is the 3rd child out of 10 children born to the couple. Her siblings include Pleasant, John, Everett, Nancy, Clora, Mary, Nicholas, Martha, and Leola Casto.
Mattie never married. She never had children.
Sadly, Mattie died on October 25, 1948. She died of cardiac failure. Mattie was 84 years, 8 months, and 9 days old. Mattie was buried on October 21, 1948. She is buried in Goshen Cemetery. Several other family members are also buried in the same cemetery.
Including her sister Leola Georgie Casto Skeen.

Long Illness Is Fatal To Mattie A. Casto On Monday

Funeral services for Mattie A. Casto, 84-year-old retired school teacher, will be held at the Goshen church near Kentuck this (Wednesday) afternoon at 1:30 o'clock with the Rev. Vairl Winters of the Elizabeth Baptist church in charge and the burial will be in the church cemetery. The Vail undertakers are in charge of the arrangements.

Miss Casto died Monday morning at the home of Mrs. Laura Powers near Ripley where she had made her home for some time. She had been ill for the past five months.

Miss Casto taught 28 terms of schools and during the period when she was engaged in the profession was considered among the best of the county's teacher.

Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Georgie Skeen of Ripley, and 21 nieces and 12 nephews.
