William John Ahrendt, now divorced, went to live with his son James Harold Ahrendt in Redwood City, San Francisco County, CA. and worked as a furnace repairman. Here he committed suicide at 1110A Lake St, San Francisco, by shooting himself in the head on March 7, 1933. While the death certificate indicated he was to be buried in Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, his son James Harold Ahrendt said that this did not happen and that he had him cremated and he took his ashes about 6 mos after he died to Colorado and scattered them on the Little Arkansas River in Salida, Colorado.

Mary Louise (Rose) (Mansheim) Ahrendt married two more times but there were no further children. We do not know who she married 2nd or when but a later census indicated she had 3 marriages. Her third marriage about 1922 was to Harry J. Field b.ca. 1884 St. Albans, Kanawha Co. WV who was later the informant on her death certificate.

Harry J. Field enlisted 29 June 1918 in the U.S. Army for WWI in the Columbus Barracks in Ohio. We do not know if she knew him before, or during the War, but Harry J. Field was a member of the American Expeditionary Forces in WWI from August 15, 1918 to March 17, 1919. He was honorably discharged on June 3, 1919 with a 10% disability as a Private, First Class. The American Expeditionary Forces were the U.S. Armed forces sent to Europe in World War I. They fought alongside allied forces against Imperial German forces. The AEF helped the French defend the Western Front during the Aisne Offensive in May 1918, and fought its major action in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in the fall of 1918. Harry was a Private, First Class, U.S. Army in the 1920 census for Ft. Bliss, El Paso, TX. He was the son of a William Ralph Field and his wife Martha Ellen Ingraham from Kanawha, WV. Although he listed his birth as around 1884 when stating his age, the 1900 census for Kanawha, WV stated he was born November 1878 and was one of 10 children, only 7 still living born to his parents William Ralph Field and Martha Ellen Ingraham. His father William Ralph Field was struck by an automobile and died Sept 19 1927, and his widowed mother Martha Ellen Field following her married daughter Ensel (Field) Workman and husband Wilbur Workman to Steubenville, Jefferson Co. Ohio where they can be seen in the 1930 census.

Both Mary Louise Field and third husband Harry J. Field are listed on the Apr 1930 census in the State of California. Her husband Harry J. Field is a patient at Camp Freemont, U.S. Public Health Service Hospital, San Mateo County, CA. This was a U.S. Public Health Service Hospital set up after WWI for returning war veterans. On that census he is age 46, lists his age at marriage as 38 (making it 1922) and he is from WV. His wife Mary Field is listed separately as 47, living as a lodger and working as a housekeeper in San Francisco Co. CA. San Mateo is in the San Francisco Bay. Both still say married, not divorced. It is presumed he was in the hospital for medical reasons. Her death certificate listed her occupation as Practical Nurse at the Laguna Honda Home in San Francisco, CA, one of the largest nursing homes in the country. Family state she met Harry Field through her work. She died of terminal pneumonia (6 days) that resulted from cancer of the cervix and uterus with secondary anemia.

The death cert indicated she was to be buried in Leadville, Colorado.
