Eugene was born April 22, 1922 on a farm south of Zeeland, ND, the son of Andrew and Anna (Feist) Nolz. He attended school in Zeeland. Eugene was the oldest of eleven children.

Eugene married Rose Ilene Jung on January 28th, 1947 and they farmed east of Zeeland. They later moved to a farm seven miles east of Zeeland along the South Dakota Border.

In 1979, he harvested his last crop and moved to Aberdeen. In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, golf, building wood crafts, and playing pool and cards at the Senior Center. He spent many hours volunteering to read to the elderly and delivering Senior Meals on Wheels. He also had a big garden which he shared with his neighbors. He enjoyed going to mass and said the rosary daily. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Aberdeen, SD, and a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. In 2011, Eugene and Rose moved back to the farm in Zeeland, where he enjoyed looking at the crops and the cattle and bird-watching. He built Martin bird houses and was always happy to see them come in the spring.
