NAPOLEON — The funeral for Martin G. Nolz, Napoleon, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, with the Rev. Ross LaFramboise officiating. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon.

Visitation will be held today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

Martin was born Dec. 17, 1923, to Andrew M. and Anna (Feist) Nolz. He grew up on the family farm in Zeeland. He attended Zeeland High School. He served in the army from October 1944 to November 1946, completing basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. He was in the infantry and served in the Philippines and in Japan during the occupation. Martin went back to farming in Zeeland with his father after the war until he started farming on his own. He married Anna Kuhn on Dec. 28, 1948 at St. Boniface Church in rural Kintyre. They farmed nine miles southwest of Napoleon from 1949 until 1980 when they moved to Napoleon. He worked from time to time at Napoleon city landfill and Napoleon Livestock Auction and repaired small appliances in his spare time. He was in Washington DC in 2009 with the Roughrider Honor Flight and served as the Logan County Services officer for ten years. He was a member of St. Boniface Church, St. Philip Neri Church, the American Legion and Knights of Columbus.

Martin died Feb. 5, 2011, at the Wishek Community Hospital. He was 87 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; and daughters Bernadette (Al) Wald, Dickinson, Marlene (Jake) LaRue, Omaha, Neb., Stella (Jake) Hanson, Grand Forks, and Annette (Mick) Banes, Littleton, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five brothers, Eugene (Rose) Nolz, Aberdeen, S.D., Joseph Nolz, Napoleon, Francis (Anna) Nolz, Linton, Pius Nolz, Wells, Iowa, and Andrew (Liz) Nolz, Marion, Iowa; two sisters, Anna (Jerome) Senger, Strasburg, and Helen (Ray) Wolf, Zeeland. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Aloysius Nolz and Leo Nolz; and one sister, Rose Marie Nolz.
