Joseph D. Harrison and wife Rachel called their farm in Warren County "Pleasant Cove," which is mentioned in the autobiography of one of their sons and in the will of a nephew, George Harrison, which was proved in Warren County in 1859. In 1817, Joseph sold his land in Warren County and moved to Alabama to a farm on the Blount and Jefferson County line. In 1826, Joseph and Rachel sold the land in Jefferson County, apparently planning to join the Stephen F. Austin Colony in Texas. Joseph and his family were in Texas by 1830 where they appear in the "Citizen's Register" of Austin's Colony. This register shows the family with four sons and three daughters, and states the family arrived in Texas in January of 1830.

Arrived in Washington, TX as part of Stephen F. Austin's settlement in Jan 1830. Took oath Jan 21, 1830. He is listed as age 50, married to Rachel F. age 46, 4 children and 3 other dependents. Came from Alabama to Texas.

Joseph D. and Rachel Harrison returned to Alabama where he and Rachel both died about 1834 near Village Springs in Blount County.
