Mrs. Ethel Mae Chappelle Waterfield, 60 of 1511 Laurel Avenue, Norfolk Highlands, died at the residence yesterday at 1:50 a.m. after an illness of one year. She was a native of Back Bay, Princess Anne County.
She was daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Murphy Chappell and wife of the late John C. Waterfield.
Surviving are one son, Raymond E. Waterfield, Norfolk Highlands; five daughters, Miss Thelma Waterfield, Mrs. W.R. Swain, Mrs. M.T. Ward, all of Norfolk; Mrs. D.L. Stepp, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. B.B. Hyatt of Hawthorne, Fla; four brothers, W.J.(Wm Joseph) Chappelle, R.C.(Rufus Colon) Chappelle, W.T.(Wesley Tazwell) Chappelle, all of Back Bay and W.G. Chappelle of Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. R.B. Henley (Bernice Chappelle Henley), seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Sykes Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Charity Methodist Church Cemetery.
