Herbert Highland was born December 13, 1915 in Carbondale, the son of Rudolph and Bertha Goodman Highland. Three brothers survive -- Charles and Lewis, both of Carbondale and Paul of Salinas, California.
He was married in 1950 to Billie Davis in Carbondale. His wife survives.
Mr. Highland was a car inspector for the Illinois Central railroad and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A former Carbondale resident, Mr. Highland died of a heart attack at his New Orleans, Louisanna home. He was 47 years old.
