John E. Ebert, age 91, of 12108 Palm Grove Road, Whitelaw, who made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Art Dietrich for the past 24 years until moving to Shady Lane Home a month ago, died Saturday morning, April 24, 1999 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, Kellnersville. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic church, Whitelaw. Rev. Richard H. Heymen will officiate with burial to follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Whitelaw.

John was born Nov. 4, 1907 in the town of Franklin, Manitowoc County, son of the late Jacob and Anna Fritsch Ebert. He grew up in the town of Franklin, attending St. Michael Grade School. John was married to Margaret B. Schamburek of Oct. 24, 1934 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. She preceded him in death June 13, 1953.

John farmed in the town of Franklin all his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. He is one of the oldest members of St. Michael Catholic Church and a former member of the Holy Name Society. John is a retired member of the Whitelaw sportsman Club.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Art Dietrich, Whitelaw, Barbara and Paul Wallander, Reedsville and Margaret and Joe Welch, Reedsville; six sons and five daughters-in-law, John and Ruth Ebert, Cato; James and Audrey Ebert, Whitelaw; Russell and Evelyn Ebert, Cato; Edward Ebert, Whitelaw; Thomas and Betty Ebert, Whitelaw; Daniel and Barbara Ebert, Manitowoc; 36 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren and a sister, Margaret Greis, Manitowoc.
Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law include Mildred Ebert, Manitowoc; Ann Ebert, Manitowoc; Clara and Joe Franz, Manitowoc; Florence and William Fritsch, Whitelaw; Theresa and Leroy Kohlbeck, Appleton; Leonis and Charles Typner, Pomona, California; Leo and Donna Krall, Manitowoc, Robert Bennington, Marion Schamburek and Ann Schmertzler of Whitelaw. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; an infant grandson; two sisters, Caroline Grimm and Clara Goehring; four brothers, Joseph, Andrew, Reiny and Michael; other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Relatives and friends may call at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, Kellnersville from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Richard Heymen will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
