Bill grew up in the Argentine area, attending Noble Prentis grade school, Argentine Jr.-Sr. High School, and was in the first graduating class of J. C. Harmon High School (a merger of Argentine and Rosedale high schools). Bill was subsequently a graduate of the University of Kansas, earning two degrees – the first in Education (Math & Science) followed several years later with a degree in civil engineering.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and hunting. Growing up, his primary recreational pursuit was water skiing. Later in life, involvement in his kids' sports activities was a major component of Bill's life. In fact, one of Cortney's fondest memories of her Dad was when she was little with a bat in her hands while Bill was on a bucket feeding the tee balls to her. As an adult, another of her fondest memories is Bill's fear the first time held Addison, afraid he might break her because she was so small.
William George Channell was the father of two children and is survived by both: Cortney Lyn Hipsher and William "Tyler" Channell. At the time of his death, Bill had one grandchild, Cortney's daughter Addison Jade. Bill is also survived by Lyn Channell (mother of Cortney and Tyler) & by Lyn's mother, Betty McLaughlin. Channell survivors include Bill's three older siblings Wesley Richard Channell Jr. & wife Deborah, Janet Sue Ritter & husband Daniel Patrick Ritter III, and Ruth Elizabeth French & husband Greg. Surviving Channell nieces and nephews include: Wes's daughter Erin Kathleen Channell; Jan's three boys Daniel Patrick Ritter IV & wife Robyn, Richard Kirk Ritter & his sons Joshua Logan Ritter & Liam Joseph Ritter, and Jan's youngest son Ryan Joseph Ritter. Bill is also survived by the living patriarch of the Channell family, Bill's Uncle Larry, Lawrence Harold Channell.
