Janet Sue "Jan" (Channell) Ritter, 72, of Stilwell, Kansas passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2023. She was born on June 27, 1951, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Wesley Richard "Dick" and Doris Louise (Nieweg) Channell. She is preceded in death by both of her parents and 2 brothers, Wesley Richard "Wes" Channell Jr and William George "Bill" Channell. She is survived by her husband of 52 years Daniel Patrick Ritter III; sons Daniel (Robyn) Ritter IV, Richard (Theresa) Ritter, and Ryan Ritter; grandchildren Kyler, Sophia, Madeline, Joshua, Liam, and Levi; and her sister Ruth (Greg) French.

Jan grew up in the Argentine area of Kansas City, Kansas, attending Noble Prentice elementary school; followed by six years at Argentine Jr/Sr High School (Class '69). Jan then spent two years at Kansas City Kansas Junior College (KCKCJC), now known as Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC); Jan and Dan married August 7, 1971. Alongside Dan, Jan completed her education at Wichita State University, majoring in early education. After graduation, she taught school at Noble Prentis then Stanley elementary schools in KCKS.

The Ritter family lived across the U.S., with Jan working in elementary schools in Arizona, California, Indiana, Florida, and Kansas. Passionate about her family and cooking, Jan was at the center of family gatherings with home-cooked meals, a smile, and a hug.

There will be a memorial visitation with the family on Friday, July 14 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Maple Hill Funeral Home in the Argentine area (2301 S. 34th St., KCKS 66106). Funeral services will be held at Queen of the Holy Rosary – Wea (22779 Metcalf Rd. Bucyrus, KS 66013) on Saturday, July 15 at 10 AM. Inurnment will in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Children's Mercy Childhood Diabetes Center Kansas City (www.childrensmercy.org/ways-to-give).
