Paul L. Behnke, age 89, of Calumet Homestead & Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, formerly of Brillion, died June 8, 2004 at the Homestead.
He was born March 3, 1915 in the Town of Rockland, son of the late Edward and Helen (Damm) Behnke.
He married Violet Dickert on September 21, 1938 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988.
Paul worked at Brillion Iron Works until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion.
He is survived by two grandchildren: Scott Hawkinson, Plainsboro, NJ; Cynthia (Mark) McEahern, Madison; two sisters: Evelyn Kanter, Manitowoc; Elnora Graf, Brillion; five sisters-in-law: Margaret Behnke, Grafton; Elsie Naidl, Clara Swetlik and Hilda Wuellner, all of Manitowoc; Edith Dickert, Green Bay; a son-in-law, Joseph Steffes, Portage; three step grandsons: Michael Steffes, Marshall; Paul and Patrick Steffes, Chicago; many nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet on May 24, 1995; a daughter, Ione Steffes on March 5, 1993; nine sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion. The Revs. Ross Henzi and David Rockhoff will officiate. Entombment will follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. Friends may call at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion from 9 a.m. Friday, June 11 until the time of service. The Wieting Funeral Home of Brillion assisted the family with arrangements. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Garrow Villa in Brillion, the Calumet Homestead, New Holstein and Affinity Hospice in Appleton.
