Alice was born on May 25, 1918, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late John and Pauline Geerdts Puls. In 1920, the family moved to a farm in Two Creeks. Her parents built the home and barn in 1920. The farm is the first farm west of the Two Creeks Fire Station. Alice went to Lake View School from first through fourth grade. The school is still there and taken care of by a history professor. In 1928, the family moved back to Two Rivers. Alice attended Hamilton School, which is now City Hall. The school had six grades, so Alice attended Washington High School from seventh through 12th grade, graduating in 1936. Alice was an only child. She was very active in school, playing in the band, and singing in both girls' chorus and mixed chorus. She played baseball, basketball and hockey.

On June 7, 1941, Alice married Patrick L. Day at Grace Congregational Church, Two Rivers, where they have been members since their marriage. Alice was a telephone operator for the Commonwealth Telephone Co. of Two Rivers. She was then employed for many years at the J.C. Penney Co., working first in Two Rivers and then at the Mid Cities Mall location before her retirement in 1974. Alice was a member of the ladies' auxiliary of the VFW Post 1248.
