RAYMOND KUEHNE

Raymond R. Kuehne, age 84, of 3716 S. 10th St., Manitowoc, died Thursday, September 3, 1998, at River's Bend Health Care Center, Manitowoc. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 7, 1998, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Simonsen, with burial in Knollwood Memorial Garden(sic). Military rites will be accorded by VFW Post #659.

Raymond was born February 18, 1914, in Manitowoc, son of the late Otto and Helen Detjen Kuehne. He attended Manitowoc Public Schools.

Raymond married Florence Elaine Kuehne on September 20, 1941, in Nashua, Iowa.

Ray was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Chief engineer on tugs in the English Channel, fought at the Normandy, and in the Battle of the Bulge. In the 1940's and 1950's, he raced Indian motorcycles on the national flat track circuit, holding national number 11 for several years. During the 1960's and 1970s he and his wife, Elaine, were foster parents to 33 children in Manitowoc County. He worked at Manitowoc Shipbuilding for 43 years, retiring in 1979. Ray was an avid gardener.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Elaine Kuehne, Manitowoc, one and daughter-in-law, Calvin (RoseAnn) Kuehne, Manitowoc; two grandchildren, Krista Kuehne, Sheboygan, Kyle (Trisha) Kuehne, Sheboygan, one great-grandchild, Klohie Rae Kuehne; and one sister, Ruth Klug, Manitowoc.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Friends may call at St. Paul's Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
